The first (visible) Tiny Moment
Ten years ago, Music appeared for musicians who had just met.
In 2016, I took a ridiculous leap. I invited ~20 musicians who had never all met or played together to arrive w instruments in Seattle for a week of improvisation and collaboration. The primary goal: to collectively invite Music into the room.
This is the first three minutes and three seconds of what happened when the first sounds were made at the first Tiny Orchestral Moments (Peak Week) workshop.
To quote my friend and former Microsoft co-worker Scott Berkun: “I’m not sure what this is, but I love it.”
Ten years later, I’m now sure what this is. And I also love it.
This is an example of a Tiny Moment where an Orchestration spontaneously appeared, without words, without planning. The music appeared and unfolded as the musicians entered the room, and began to join in one by one.
Welcome to 2026: the beginning of the unveiling of 10 years of Tiny Orchestral Moments. We’ll share music. Stories. Histories. Inspirations. Practices.
And permission to join us as we continue to intentionally invite Music into our lives.
Here: Paul Richards, Nora Germain, Nigel Gavin, Sonia Wilson, Petra Haden, Amy Denio, Jaxie Binder, Carl Germain and I in the room where it happened: we met for the first time in this configuration. And followed the muse.
First call to action: follow us where the muse has led us over the past 10 years here: https://www.youtube.com/@TinyOrMo
